Frequently asked questions

Does the world clock handle daylight saving time?

Yes. Times are calculated from your browser's built-in time zone database, so daylight saving transitions are applied automatically and stay current.

Will it remember my cities?

Your selected cities are saved locally in your browser, so they'll be there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.

How accurate is the time?

The clock is driven by your device's system time, updated every second. If your device clock is accurate, so is TimerHub.

How does the day and night map work?

It works out where the Sun is overhead from the date and time, then shades every place where the Sun is below the horizon. The darkest area is full night; the lighter edges are civil twilight (Sun up to 6° below the horizon) and nautical twilight (6–12° below). It redraws every minute, and the dots are the cities in your world clock.

What do the colours in each city's strip mean?

The strip covers the 12 hours either side of now. Green cells are working hours (09:00–17:00 in that city), grey cells are the usual waking hours either side (07:00–09:00 and 17:00–21:00), and dark cells are night. Cities with half-hour offsets, like Kolkata, are rated by their own minutes.

Can I switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time?

Yes — use the toggle to switch all clocks between AM/PM and 24-hour format.
